Olas de Recuerdo (memories of salt)

Olas de Recuerdo is a 30 minute documentary about memory and the family stories passed down (or not) that inform our identities. In 2019, filmmaker Naomi Pasmanick interviewed  her grandmother and cousins- the Coloret family- about their childhood, what they experienced before, during, and after the Spanish Civil War, and what it was like to be exiled from their land.

While many of the events outlined in this film occurred decades ago, the themes of a rising militant right wing, migration, and resistance remain timely topics which add to the collective conversation about the importance of memory and storytelling for the conservation of our humanity.

Olas de Recuerdo is in Spanish and Gallego with English and Portuguese subtitles. It premiered at the Concello de Moaña, in Galicia, Spain in September 2024, in the community where the story takes place.  It is now in the film festival circuit.

Supported by the San Francisco Arts Commission.
